Hello, my name is Sam. I'd like to welcome you to Bénouville.Did you know that during the Second World War, operations for the Battle of Normandy began here? Gliders landed on the night of 5-6 June 1944.
The assault was led by Major Howard of the British 6th Airborne Division. My grandmother, who witnessed the liberation from the Château de Bénouville, told me that a secret code was hidden in the commune.
It gives access to an exceptional piece of Major Howard's work, reserved for a privileged few at the official ceremony on 5 June 2024, the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings!
After the war, Major Howard returned to speak to the younger generations of soldiers during the commemorations.
Major Howard died in 1999. Today, his family continues to attend the D-Day ceremonies every year. Are you ready to investigate and discover the heritage of Bénouville? It won't be easy... Keep your eyes peeled and good luck!
